Kolola Springs, names for the springs about two miles away, began in 1927 when the Frisco Railroad built a
branch line from Amory, Mississippi to Pensacola, Florida, which ran through Lowndes County. The following year
Clarence Dale, Sr. and his family moves to town. The same year, S. A. Vaughn and son built a store and opened for
business and soon thereafter, the first depot agent and a telegraph operator, J. M. Stewart, moved to town with his family.
These families brought rapid changes to this new little community. The first school was established in 1928, and Lois Vaughn came
from Caledonia to become the first teacher. A Mrs. Brown, Mrs. Todd, Mrs. Lucille Jernigan, Mrs. Lozella Dale, and Mrs. Charlie Atkins
taught during subsequent terms, but the school was short-lived being consolidated with Caledonia High School in 1932.
The first church began in 1928, Sunday School met in a Frisco boxcar and church was held in the train depot. Later int eh year the Kolola
Springs Baptist Church was formed from this simple beginning but they, too, lacked a church building and until the present structure was built,
met int he Kolola Springs school building.
Today, Kolola Springs is a sprawling community of 500-600 residents. Most of the area farmers grow cottom, soybeans, and raise cattle.
