Charlie Carter ARTESIA - Charlie Lee Carter Sr., 76, died Feb. 5, 2010, at Baptist Memorial Hospital–Golden Triangle. Services are Saturday at noon at New Hope MB Church with Pastor Fredrick Carter officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation is Friday from 3-6 p.m. at Carter's Mortuary Services Chapel. Mr. Carter was born March 8, 1933, in Artesia to the late Major Carter Sr., and Lillian J. Carter. He was retired from GM and O Railroad. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Martha Ann Billups; daughter, Gloria J. Carter; brothers, James Carter and Major Carter Jr.; and sister, Maxie Mable Carter. He is survived by sons, Charlie James Carter Jr., Willette Marvin Carter and Frederick J. Carter, all of Columbus; daughters, Flora J. Carter, of Artesia, and Charlene Carter-Dickerson, of Douglasville, Ga.; brothers, George T. Carter and Willie James Carter Sr., both of Cincinnati; sisters, Della Mae Carter-Bobo, of West Point, and Ella Mae Carter-Fulton, of Columbus; 14 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
