Myrtie Gladys Pace Combs -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Myrtie Gladys Pace Combs, 80, of Artesia, Miss., died June 22, 2004, at Dugan Memorial Home in West Point. Services were held today at 1 p.m. at Memorial Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Reagan Rye officiating. Burial followed at Pythian Cemetery in Artesia. Mrs. Combs was born Jan. 6, 1924, in Bailey, Miss. in Kemper County, the daughter of the late Walter Emmanuel and Euna Caldwell Pace. She was a member of Artesia Baptist Church. She was an avid seamstress, gardener, and a successful businesswoman, having co-owned and operated Combs Discount Furniture in Artesia with her husband from 1959 until 1984. Mrs. Combs was also retired from Railway Express. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and sister. She married Judson Combs on March 30, 1943. She was preceded in death by three brothers, Aubert Eugene Pace, Charlie William Pace, and Edmund Bradley Pace. Mrs. Combs is survived by her husband, Judson Combs of Artesia; three daughters, Sandra Combs Clem (John) of Atlanta, Ga., Judy Combs Owens of Tuscaloosa, Ala., and Beverly Combs Abrams (George Neel) of Artesia; five grandchildren, Patrick Clem (Julie), Jehue Clem, Paige Colburn (Todd), Jud Abrams, and Neel Abrams (Libby); six great-grandchildren, Bryson Clem, Lauren Colburn, Meredith Colburn, Chloe Rose Colburn, Hale Colburn, and Neely Abrams; four sisters, Euna Pratt (Harold) of Meridian, Miss., Sara Smith (Weldon) of Clinton, Miss., Valeria Bland of Bailey, Miss., and Pat Colwick (John) of Starkville; and two brothers, Walter Ray Pace (Ruby) of Bailey, Miss. and Harrell Pace (Mary) of Daleville, Miss. Pallbearers were Jud Abrams, Neel Abrams, Jehue Clem, Todd Colburn, Eddie Permenter, Bubba Gray, Matt Rye, and Mark Bolin. Honorary pallbearers were Dr. T.N. Braddock, the staff of Dugan Memorial Home, Robert Lee and Martha Dean Gray, Vera Dantzler, Betty Ann Carter, and Deacons and Men's Sunday School Class of Artesia Baptist Church.
