Ret. M/Sgt. Johnny Meredith Campbell, 76 of Columbus, MS passed away Tuesday, September 29, 2009 at Baptist Memorial Hospital – GT, Columbus, MS.

Visitation will be held Friday, October 2, 2009 from 2 – 4 PM at 8 Funeral Home, Columbus, MS. A Memorial Service will be held Friday, October 2, 2009 at 4 PM in the Lowndes Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Slater Murphy officiating.

Mr. Campbell was born December 16, 1932 in Kenvir, KY to the late Meredith Elmer and Vinnia Bellue Campbell and has been a resident of Columbus, MS for the past 39 years having moved from Smyrna, TN. He was a Vietnam Veteran and retired in 1995 as Master Sergeant with 23 years of service in the United States Air Force. Mr. Campbell was employed with the US Post Office with 20 years of service. He was a member of Green Oaks Golf Club and attended Fairview Baptist Church, Columbus, MS.

Mr. Campbell is survived by his wife of 55 years - Lillie E. Campbell, Columbus, MS; daughters – Annette Heusinkveld, Murfreesboro, TN; Deborah Walker, Joplin, MO; sons – John W. Campbell, Murfreesboro, TN; Mert E. Campbell, Caledonia, MS; brother – William O. Campbell, Valley Station, KY; sister - Maryann Sampson, Lincolnton, NC; eleven grandchildren – Meredith Peck, Emily and Dirk Heusinkveld; Nick, Mark and Chris Walker; Jeremy, Matt and Zachary Campbell; Reagan and Rileigh Campbell and one great grandchild.
