Death of Mrs. J. F. McIlwain Artesia, Miss., Nov. 14 (1914) -- Mrs. J. F. McIlwain, wife of J. F. McIlwain, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. D. Butts, deceased, died at her home in Artesia Nov. 10th, after an illness of three weeks. She leaves a sad husband, a little three weeks' old babe, two brothers, many relatives and friends to mourn her death. Mrs. McIlwain's parents died about seven years ago, after which she made her home with her uncle and aunt, Mr. and Mrs. A. N. Butts, who according to her dying testimony did all in their power to take the place of father and mother. A little over two years ago she became the wife of our fellow townsman, J.F. McIlwain, and she shared with him equally in the task of making an ideal home. Great plans were made by this young, hopeful couple and apparently a bright, happy future was before them, but God in His infinite wisdom saw fit to interpose. We know not why but some day we will understand. Her life seemed all to short, being only twenty-four years of age but yet it was a life full of rich experiences and laden with many kind deeds. At the beginning of her married life, when a home was established, Christ was made a welcome guest: "there was room for him in the inn." In every sense of the word, she was a child of God, a devoted daughter, an obedient, appreciative neice, a loyal sister, a sweet, gentle companionable wife and help-mate. True always to her God, her church, loved ones, and friends. Her dying testimony was most (rest of obit was torn and missing).
