W.H. "Pick" Pickering Mr. William Henry Pickering, 78, of Columbus, MS, passed away Saturday, September 23, 2006 at his residence. Services were held today, Monday, September 25, 2006 at Shaeffer's Chapel Church with Bro. Curtis Bray officiating. Internment was at Shaeffer's Chapel Cemetery in Columbus. Arrangements were handled by Memorial Funeral Home where the family received friends from 5:00 - 8:00 p.m. on Sunday, September 24, 2006. Mr. Pickering was born on April 8, 1928 in Pototoc, MS to the late Murry Ray and Loyd Ernest Pickering. He was a member of Shaeffer's Chapel Church and an employee of Lowndes County District 5 where he retired after 40 years. He is survived by his wife Lucille George Pickering; son, Dale Pickering of Columbus and a very special daughter-in-law Nina Pickering; sister, Mandy Thompson of Memphis, TN; brother, Hubert Pickering of El Paso, TX; step granddaughters, Tabatha Hazard (John) and Monica May (Charlie); and step great grandson, Jonathan Hazard. Pallbearers were Jonathan Hazard, Jon Hazard, Doug Buchannon, Jerry Buchannon, Jacky Triplett, Dickie Gossett, and David Alexander. Honorary pallbearers were Robert Bolin, Al Vonkohn, George Stacey, the men of District 5 Lowndes County road department, the members of Shaeffer's Chapel Church. Memorials may be made to the Shaeffer's Chapel Church building fund, 1007 Shaeffer's Chapel Rd., Columbus, MS 39701.
