WEST POINT COUPLE CELEBRATE THEIR 56th
WEDDING ANNIVERSARY
ENGAGEMENT ANNOUNCED OF MISS LUCY FRANCES
LAGRONE
Wednesday was the 56th anniversary of the
wedding of Mr. and Mrs. B. L. Smith. to
celebrate the happy event, their sons and daughters planned a surprise to
spring upon them. Mr. and Mrs. Smith
are regular attendants upon the Wednesday night prayer meeting, so the arch
conspirators had full play. Invitations
were extended and when the honorees reached home, they found the house full of
friends ready there to welcome them.
The affair was thoroughly informal, and with Mrs. B. Smith at the piano,
"Comin' through the Rye," and other old favorites were sung.
Mrs. Smith was provided with a bride's
bouquet and she and Mr. Smith were the recipients of the sincere
congratulations and good wishes of their friends.
But this was to be an evening of
surprises. Mr. B. L. Smith, Jr.,
announced the receipt of a telegram, which arrested the attention of all. The telegram conveyed the news of the
engagement of Miss Lucy Frances Lagrone and Mr. William Rufus Moore of New
Albany, the wedding to be solemnized in June.
Miss Lucy Frances at once became the object of interest and was showered
with good wishes.
The 15th of April is really Smith Day, it
also being the wedding anniversary of Mrs. M. L. Duncan and of Mr. and Mrs. W.
F. Lagrone.
Strawberry ice cream and cake were
served.
