EAST SAND CREEK CEMETERY, also now known as EAST SAND CREEK MISSIONARY BAPTIST CHURCH CEMETERY
Road leading in from highway.I visited this cemetery in October 2004. It
was originally a white cemetery, and perhaps a white church but now there is a very nice African-American church on the back part of this cemetery site, and new burials in the back part of this old cemetery. This cemetery is in good condition.
I photographed as many stones of the old part as I could find. I did not photograph the newer part because there was a church service going on and these new stones were very near the church. If you can help photograph this cemetery or other cemeteries, please email me and let me know. .... C. L. Herrick
Also Surveyed by Russell D. James and Mike Lowery on 14 February 2004.
Location: About nine miles east of Starkville, Mississippi, just south of
Highway182, at the county line of Oktibbeha and Lowndes Counties. The cemetery
is probably in Lowndes County, White Section Abandoned.
Originally Copied by: Mr. and Mrs. Charlie R. Ashford, Sr., Starkville,
Mississippi. Date copied: March 9, 1966 Rewalked and checked for updated August
1994.
