    Mississippi History

Forreston - The site of Forreston, eight miles southeast of Columbus, was named for General Nathan Bedford Forrest who, in 1869, formed a company to promote the bilding of a railroad from Memphis, TN , to Marion and Selma AL. About forty miles of track was laid, but a financial panic caused suspension of work, and the road was never completed.*
